This is a German M1898/05 (G98/05) modified Sword or "Butcher" bayonet. It features a 10" cut down blade with unsharpened edge and the ricasso is marked "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER A.G. OBERNDORF a/M" with "W 17" on the spine indicating 1917 manufacture. Overall condition of this bayonet is fair with well worn wood grips and patina to the metal. The original blade would have been 14.5" but many of these were arsenal shortened, in particular those supplied to Turks during WW1 as they preferred the shorter blade length.
